Open Educational Resources

OER Defined

OER are defined by the Hewlett Foundation as "teaching, learning, and research resources that reside in the public domain or have been released under an intellectual property license that permits their free use and repurposing by others." With an open license, these materials are low- or no-cost for students and available in multiple formats to address different learning styles.

OER at the University of Hartford

In 2016, the University-wide OER committee was formed after the Information Technology Executive Council (ITEC) identified OER as an initiative it wanted to pursue. Since then, the committee has been working toward increased awareness about OER among faculty, and offering workshops, trainings, meetings, and more, in order to provide information and support for interested faculty.

Members of the OER Committee:

  • Taylor St. Pierre (chair)
  • Nick Wharton
  • Barbara Haines
  • William "BJ" Keynon
  • Lisa Zawilinski
